This is the first step in applying to become a CASA Volunteer. The application process that you are about to engage in is very stringent and requires a great deal of reflection to complete. Additionally, there are many steps to becoming a volunteer and the process can be timely. However, many before you have taken the steps to become a CASA volunteer and are enduring through the many struggles as well as enjoying the knowledge that their efforts to find permanency and protection for many children across the nation are working with outstanding results! So, please be patient with us as we help you through the application process.
A non-refundable application fee of $30 is required at the time you are accepted for training. This fee only helps alleviate a portion of the full cost to process your application that includes a variety of background checks, reference checks, training manual and materials. Scholarships to cover this cost are available for applicants with extenuating circumstances.
CASA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religious preference, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Unfortunately, not every applicant is accepted for our advocacy work. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older with no felony convictions to apply for the CASA Volunteer Program and applicants may be rejected at the discretion of the administrative staff for any reason to include, but not limited to: an applicant who refuses to sign a release of information form; has a criminal record or whose name appears on the TRAILS Database in Colorado or any other state. Refusing to sign the release form or participate in our screening process automatically disqualifies you as an applicant. CASA reserves the right to deny a volunteer position to any applicant without explanation.
We want to be as helpful to you as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact our office at (719) 269-2393 if you have any questions or need assistance.
After you complete the application and submit it, a CASA staff person will be contacting you to discuss your application and set up a face-to-face interview with you. There are additional forms that you will need to sign to complete the background check process. These forms will require additional personal information from you - your social security number, date of birth, marital status, and even the names of your children in order to check your name against the Colorado TRAILS Child Welfare System. Please be prepared to have this information with you when we meet with you.
You will need your driver's license number and the names of three references in order to submit the online application. You may also need access to other information to complete the application.
